Codsworth is the player character’s pre-war robot butler in Fallout 4. He’s the first companion you’ll encounter.

As such, he’s not terribly useful, but he’s fun to talk to and beats traveling alone. This guide will show you where to find him, how to use him in combat and how to increase relationship level with Codsworth.

Codsworth can be found in Sanctuary Hills, roaming around your past home. He’s been tending to in for the past 200 years, while you were away. He’ll be thrilled to see you.
Abilities & perks
Abilities: He’s an entry level companion – someone to help you get a feel for the system. He doesn’t have any notable skills, and he’s not a good fighter. Perk: Robot Sympathy (Gives +10 damage resistance against robot energy weapons)
How to reach Maximum Relationship Level with Codsworth
You cannot have a romantic relationship with Codsworth, so the only reason to raise your relationship level with him is to activate his perk. He likes it when you’re nice to people. Giving a homeless person a gulp of water makes Codsworth happy.
No I grabbed Codsworth, too. After I found how much Dogmeat likes shoving me about or agroing NPCs to me, starting battles I didn’t want to be in EVERY time, lol.
He has been just Sittin there waiting for 200 years for you to come back and if my game is anything to go by, he waits another couple of years while you take tons of other companions with you on a quest against the institute and only when you finished and get bored you come back and take him with you.
Theres a mod that allows you to have dogmeat and anothe companion with you. I think its like “dogs best friend” or “everyones best friend”. Its very helpful fir thise situations where you have three groups of different enemies coming at you lol
Codsworth has saved my butt on more than one occasion, I actually think he’s pretty good in a melee fight when surprised by irradiated creatures (although a bit less helpful in a ranged firefight, he was more helpful than Dogmeat overall), he’s a good companion for roaming the wastes. Plus he often gives you random purified water when you talk to him.

When you take the minute men to the sanctuary, he will still be roaming around. Just talk to him and ask him to join you. 🙂
Sadly though as in all Fallout games, you have to leave your dog.

Codsworth also has that flamethrower which helps when going through buildings.
Codsworth “loves” when you work on power armor. I’m unsure if he likes when you add weapon mods or apparel mods but I think he likes those too.
Even when he wasn’t my companion but just roaming in Sanctuary Hills, he can ‘love’ me working on one of my many power armors when close enough…
