If you don’t know how to summon spirits with ashes in Elden Ring, we’ve got your back. I mean, you might have those Spirit-Caller’s Ashes sitting in your inventory, and you know that they’re supposed to help you. You just can’t seem to make the dang thing work. Well, as it turns out, there are a few more hoops to jump through. So, without further ado, let’s see what the problem is; namely, the location of the Spirit Calling Bell.
How to Summon Spirits in Elden Ring?
To summon spirits with ashes in Elden Ring you need to have the ashes item it in your equipment. Press down on your d-pad until the spirit is selected. Press ☐ on Playstation or X on Xbox to summon the spirit. There are other prerequisites to summoning spirits though. The first step is to find the Spirit Calling Bell item’s location. Without this item, all the Spirit-Caller’s Ashes in your inventory are little more than fancy kitty litter. We cover this in more detail in our Spirit Calling Bell guide, but here’s the quick rundown. After you get the spectral steed mount fast travel to the bonfire in the Church of Elleh. It has to be by fast traveling. This should trigger another NPC, the witch Renna, to appear. Talk to her and tell her that you can summon the horse. She’ll give you the Spirit Calling Bell.
Now, to summon Elden Ring spirit ashes, you just need to place your desired Spirit-Caller’s Ash into a quickslot and use the ashes themselves as you would any other item. You don’t use the bell from your inventory, but the summon won’t happen if you don’t own it. Now you know how to summon spirits in Elden Ring.
Where can you summon spirits in Elden Ring?
Elden Ring spirit summoning works only in certain areas. You can only do this when you see the icon of an arch with writing in the middle on the left of the screen, as shown below. If you set foot outside of this radius, the spirit will vanish, so always keep that in mind. Usually, these “zones” are in front of bosses, large and difficult enemy camps, harder dungeons, etc. Other limitations are that you can only have one spirit by your side at any given time. On top of that, you can’t use them in multiplayer. It’s an offline feature only. HEre’s a pro tip. If your spirit is low on health and you have low FP you can then summon it again. Just as long as you are in the allowed area.
Very early in your exploration of Elden Ring world you will find out that you need to prepare your character for different tasks.
