The location and solution for the Sorcerer Painting puzzle in Elden Ring are both in the frozen region of Mountaintops of the Giants, in the north of the map. The painting itself is in Castle Sol. We begin from the Castle Sol Main Gate site of grace. Go into the castle through the gate and immediately go left, through the spiked barricades and up the stairs. Go right, the through the first door on the left. Climb up the long ladder straight in front of you. Follow the path straight ahead around the ramparts until you see a wooden bridge on your left. Cross it and climb the stairs to the upper level. There’s another ladder in this area, so climb down. You’ll now be in the same room as the painting. Interact with it to unlock the next step.
So, now that we know the Sorcerer Painting location in Elden Ring, let’s get to the solution. Fortunately, it’s relatively close by, for a change. To the southwest of the castle is a bridge (exact location marked below; you can go to the Snow Valley Ruins Overlook site of grace first if you want). On the east side of the bridge, about halfway across, you’ll see a small platform just below the main path. That’s where you’ll see the silhouette of the painter. After it vanishes, it’ll leave behind the Greathood head gear. And that’s basically all there is to this mystery. Be advised that there will be some sort of enemy pestering you through the majority of this journey; that should really go without saying.
