How to Get Mount in Elden Ring
If you’re wondering how to get a mount in Elden Ring, you’ve come to the right place. There are several issues here. First off, you can’t get a horse in Elden Ring from the start; you’ll have to work for it. Plus, you need to find a specific NPC and talk to them, which you can only do at a certain site of grace, or bonfire, if you prefer. It’s all a bit of a process, which is why we’ve written this guide to show you how to get your Elden Ring mount.
How to Get Elden Ring Mount
To get the mount in Elden Ring, you’ll have to play through the game until you get to the Stormgate site of grace. This is at the entrance to Stormgate castle, to the right of the portcullis. We’ll show you where it is in the screenshots below. Basically, it’s northeast of Limgrave. Every site of grace, aka bonfire, that you encounter on the way will point you towards it on the map. You’ll find it past the Church of Elleh and through the forest, just north of Gatefront Ruins.
Sit and rest at the site of grace in front of Stormgate, and you’ll meet the NPC called Melina. We go into more detail about this in our Melina choice guide. Accept her offer, and then you’ll finally be able to level up. More importantly, she’ll give you the Spectral Steed Whistle. You use it like any other item, by cycling through items at the down arrow on the d-pad and then pressing down. To get your mount in Elden Ring, just use the whistle, and your loyal spectral steed named Torrent will appear.
Torrent is faster than you, it can gallop indefinitely as long as you’re out of combat, and double-jump. Plus, you can do mounted combat, which can be extremely useful, especially with a spear. You can attack on the left with LT/LB or L1/L2 and on the right with RT/RB or R1/R2. All that said, Torrent does take damage, and can die. To heal it, use magic or Rowa Raisins. If it dies, you’ll have to resurrect it with one Flask of Crimson Tears charge or going back to a site of grace, or bonfire.
Very early in your exploration of Elden Ring world you will find out that you need to prepare your character for different tasks. You'll need to learn how to use Ashes of War, how to two-hand weapons, or use magic spells during the course of your adventures. Many secrets are also waiting for you, such as, a hostile NPC Sellen that doesn't let you see her shop, an invisible man in a bush, or a huge turtle with a bell that lets you duplicate some very important items.
