How to Unlock Crafting in Elden Ring - Crafting Kit Location
Among many new features that Elden Ring brings to the table compared to Dark Souls games, the crafting system is by far the most important. Crafting in Elden Ring is a bit different compared to other RPGs, as it focuses solely on making consumable items. Still, every little bit helps, and you will want to start crafting as soon as possible. Here’s how to unlock crafting in Elden Ring.
How to Unlock Crafting in Elden Ring – Crafting Kit Location
The Crafting system in Elden Ring is not immediately available upon starting the game. Nonetheless, you will not need to wait for long to unlock crafting in Elden Ring. Once you are done with the tutorial dungeon and enter Limgrave, just visit the Church of Elleh and speak with the vendor located there. Check out the map below for the exact location of the Church of Elleh.
The vendor, known as Merchant Kalé, is easy to spot. He resembles a bizarre Elden Ring version of Santa Claus. Merchant Kalé sits at the foot of a pylon inside the Church. Talk with him and he will offer you to purchase the Crafting Kit to unlock crafting. The Crafting Kit will cost you 300 runes (souls from Dark Souls), which you will be able to earn relatively easily at the start of the game. Just go around and kill a few enemies which will drop the required amount.
Once you obtain the Crafting Kit, a whole new crafting menu will unlock. The “Item Crafting” menu will allow you to manage your crafting materials and craft items. In order to craft an item, you’ll need to obtain a recipe for it first. In Elden Ring, these are known as Cookbooks, and you can obtain them by exploring the world and finding them in hidden locations or purchasing them from vendors. You can buy some recipes immediately from Merchant Kalé, namely Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook and Missionary’s Cookbook.
There are all kinds of crafting recipes you’ll find along your journey through the Lands Between. Some will make you more resistant to a specific type of damage, others will enhance your armours and weapons, and so on. With that said, that’s all you need to know about unlocking crafting in Elden Ring. Now all that has left is to start exploring and finding cookbooks.
Very early in your exploration of Elden Ring world you will find out that you need to prepare your character for different tasks. You'll need to learn how to use Ashes of War, how to two-hand weapons, or use magic spells during the course of your adventures. Many secrets are also waiting for you, such as, a hostile NPC Sellen that doesn't let you see her shop, an invisible man in a bush, or a huge turtle with a bell that lets you duplicate some very important items.
