The Division is a hard game to play alone. The enemies can overwhelm you in no time. Thankfully, you can group with other players and take on the challenges together. You can either play co-op with friends, or use matchmaking to connect with strangers. This guide will show you how to play coop & use matchmaking in The Division.

How to group with friends in The Division

There are two options for playing with others: you can either find and join a group, or create your own. Finding groups can be done using the matchmaking option, either from the bases or directly from the map.

If you’re going to be the group leader, you should open the menu and use the group management option. There are three privacy settings for groups:

• Open Group – anyone can join your group using the matchmaking option.
• Friends Only – only people from your friends list can join without an invitation. They can also invite their friends.
• Private Group – Invite only. Not even your friends will be welcome unless you’ve invited them manually.

There are also matchmaking stations in safe zones, that can be used to join groups. They’re represented by a laptop and a floating sign that says “matchmaking”. These also have popularity meters, which show how many people are queued for matchmaking at the moment.

Finally, you can just open up your map and choose the automatch option from there. It allows you to team up for missions, free roaming expeditions or Dark Zone incursions. It won’t allow you to create a group, but it’s better than the stations. It become available only after you establish the Base of Operations.
