Diablo 4 Witness in the Dust Bug

In our Diablo 4 Witness in the Dust Bug guide, we are going to talk about what seems to be a glitch in this quest. Namely, there’s a chest in the Fetid Mausoleum that you need to open in order to progress, but it refuses to open. That definitely seems to be some kind of bug, right? Well, not necessarily. Here’s what’s likely actually happening.

Diablo 4 A Witness in the Dust Bug

The first thing we need to get out of the way is that, as far as we know, there’s no actual bug in the Diablo 4 A Witness in the Dust quest. What’s more likely is that you haven’t completed all the prerequisites. Namely, it’s not enough to just go into the Fetid Mausoleum with Erys and whatnot. You also have to complete all the “challenges” in the Chapter 2 of the Season Journey. This is easier said than done, especially considering the progress in Chapter 1 is not working properly. We cover all of that in more detail in our Complete Chapter 1 & 2 of Season Journey Diablo 4 guide. The long story short is to open the menu, then hit the Season button next to the Map button. You’ll see the list of everything you need to do from there.

So, yeah, I don’t think that it’s a bug in the Diablo 4 A Witness in the Dust quest as people on the forums are saying; you just haven’t done everything that’s necessary. By the way, completing Chapter 1 of the Season Journey is a prerequisite for the Summons of the Deathless quest, which you can read more about in the separate guide. Anyways, once you’re done with Chapter 2, go to the Fetid Mausoleum with Hunter Erys and get the Profane Vampire Skull. The chest right before the boss should now be unlocked. It stays shut otherwise, locking you out of the quest. You can handle it from here.
