Destiny 2 Well Rested Buff Mystery

The Well Rested buff in Destiny 2 has begun popping up for some players. No-one has any idea on why it appears, or why it’s granted to certain players. Whatever the case, it allows Guardians to get XP three times faster for the duration of the buff. People are scrambling to find it, but so far, no luck.

What does Well Rested Buff in Destiny 2 do?

The Well Rested buff increases your XP gains by 3x for the next three levels you get that week. For some players, though, it lasted well beyond those three levels. People like reddit user WithoutConcerns report that the buff lasted for possibly for over ten levels before going away. Needless to say, it’s pretty desirable, but so far, nobody seems to know how to get it. We’re still looking for it, as well.

There’s a lot of speculation among Guardians as to what the Well Rested buff is and how it can be obtained. Plenty of people seem to think that the whole thing is a bug. We’ll, for one thing, the buff lasting for far over three levels certainly might be a glitch, but I don’t think it’s safe to assume that the buff itself is. Truth be told, this could be something that Bungie rolled out by accident before it was complete.

What does seem to be an important factor, though, is that the buff pops up when you join a fireteam. But, that doesn’t appear to be enough. Going by the Well Rested Buff description, it might appear if you step away from Destiny 2 for a while. Maybe it’s an incentive for you to get back into the game. Another thing we can surmise looking at what the buff says it does, it can probably happen only once a week to one Guardian. This is all just speculation. If and when we figure out how to get the buff, we’ll let you know.

Well I can say that I’ve gotten this buff and it only lasted for three ‘levels’ that is three bright engrams as I am at max level and can’t actually level anymore. I had been in a Fireteam when I had last logged off, but I had come back from being gone for over four days, and when I signed on it was there. I think it’s only when you sign back on after being away for a brief time away. Because I didn’t get this buff after I had been away from the game for over three months when I was sick and couldn’t play for a while. Nor did my Nephew get it after being away for longer than three weeks. So I think it’s something that is given for taking a break but not completely leaving the game for a long period of time. They could be following in Battle.net example with encouraging their players to not play the game constantly by giving boots after taking short brakes away from the game, since they are affiliated with Battle.net. Thought Battle.net games don’t give boosts (that I’m aware of as I had to cut my subscription to WoW over two years ago) they were very big on the message of having their players take breaks from their games to have a life outside it.

This is a weekly buff that is applied automatically, either once you hit 20 or upon the weekly reset. Everyone gets it.

Similar experience to Steve C. I was playing solo for a while. Left to eat and came back and noticed the buff. So idk.

There is no tie to fireteam. Been solo only and I’ve got it. Not sure exactly how or when I got it. Farm theory by JT could be true but would be pretty lucky for me. Never spent much time there.

So I got the Well Rested perk last night. I had played for about 3 hours then went out to eat and came back about 4 to 5 hours later and started playing. I was not a part of a fire team, but I was just roaming around doing public events when I got the perk. So it isn’t tied to a fire team. I think there some credence to taking a short break from the game and then coming back and getting the perk. Once you get the perk public events give massive XP. I was leveling up every other public event.

So I got this well rested buff sometime when the game first launched, I went from level 12-20 within an hour or two. Today I got it right after reset. I had been playing from about 4:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Went to the store for about 30 minutes and came back. Played until reset and then when we finished the nightfall I noticed I had the well rested buff.

I believe you get it from the “Commanders Blessing”. A ship that periodically flies overhead while at the Farm. Ship doesn’t touch down, it Flies and hovers for a few seconds and leaves. But it emits a light out of the bottom and there is a little notification that says “Commanders Blessing”
