Destiny 2 Timed Exclusive Content on PS4 Until 2018

Destiny fans worldwide got excited over the announcement of the sequel last week. The fact that the series would finally make its way to the PC only fanned the flames of the hype. However, many Guardians groaned when they learned that the game would have exclusive content on the PlayStation 4. As if that weren’t enough, the timed exclusivity is set to last for a whole year, until fall 2018. This move will leave Xbox and PC players well in the dust.

Neither Activision nor Bungie have revealed any details about the exclusive content yet. If the previous game is anything to go by, it will probably include stuff such as maps, Exotic weapons, armors, and other perks.

This move is a double-edged sword, to say the least. On one hand, it’s easy to understand why timed exclusivity is important for Sony. They’ve been working hard on releasing as many PS4 exclusives as possible, and generally doing everything to get ahead in the console war. The first Destiny was, at the time, the biggest PS4 launch since 2013 holidays. On the other hand, this might hurt the game’s sales in the long run. Let’s not forget that Destiny sold extremely well on the Xbox, despite the timed exclusive. And since Destiny 2 also has the important task of making the leap to a new platform, the exclusivity might discourage PC players to jump on board.

But let’s be honest, the game will probably sell really well. Preorders are already up, and early adopters will get early access to the Destiny 2 summer Beta. On top of that, the Destiny 2 Collector’s and Limited edition offer some pretty cool physical swag for the dedicated Guardians.

Destiny 2 comes out on September 8th, 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
