Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Launch Trailer Shows Off The Moon

Shadowkeep, the new Destiny 2 DLC, is going to be released on October 1st. Bungie have released the launch trailer ahead of launch, as is customary. Why they still call them “launch” trailers is beyond my imagination. Anyway, there’s a bunch of stuff in there – Eris Morn giving a grave speech, new monsters and weapons, locales from the Moon, and even the name of the new raid.

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Launch Trailer Shows Off The Moon

There’s only two minutes of footage here, but they’ve manage to fit a lot into them. It starts off by showing the Moon’s surface, some eerie catacombs, menacing underground structures and imposing spires reaching towards the sky. Then there’s some creepy crawlies, enemies with more hands than I’m comfortable counting, a boss that looks like his head is supposed to be a key and shots of a bunch of seemingly powered-up monsters and guardians.

A guardian fires off a signal flare in one shot, and a bunch of tanks roll onto the scene and start shooting. This might mean we’re getting COD-style airstrikes and the like. Title cards start announcing stuff like new exotics and activities, as well as a new dungeon – one with copious amounts of traps like rolling spike columns and such, and a giant flaming demon for a boss.

Destiny has always been big on reusing assets for new enemy types – each one has been a reskin of one of the four main factions. This time, though, there’s a bit more effort – the new Vex enemies are covered in moss and twigs, which is a bit refreshing. They’re probably going to appear in the raid, which is called the Garden of Salvation. The only bits of it shown in the trailer are a jumping puzzle in a tunnel made of rotating panels and a room at the bottom of a well, filled with glowing flowers.

Then they spend a few seconds showing off close quarter finishers and new armor sets, as well as announcing cooperative strikes and a bunch of crucible updates. Finally, we get to see some premium gestures – the ones that glow and have to be bought with proper cash (or bright dust, if you’re lucky).
