Destiny 2 to have “meaningful bespoke features” for PC players

We wrote just yesterday about the potential that Destiny 2 is actually an Xbox One Play Anywhere game for the PC. This has been neither confirmed nor denied today, but Activision-Blizzard CEO Eric Hirshberg talked about the PC version of Destiny 2 at their first quarter earnings call.

Destiny 2 already teased the potential themes of the expansions: the warlock Osiris and Warmind Rasputin.

People have been speculating as to the nature of the PC version because there has been no real Steam mention of the game yet. This, of course, does not prove anything, but it is a bit strange in the day and age when Steam is considered the place to be for games, and Activision PC games are regularly published there. With Microsoft pushing Windows 10, and especially the newly shown Windows 10 S, towards a close ecosystem, it is potentially “a thing”.

Eric Hirshberg said that they are “committed to delivering meaningful features that are bespoke to the PC community” and that he is “going to leave the details of those for our gameplay premiere event which is happening on May 18.” This brings us back to square one as far as the speculations are concerned.

Hirshberg did talk about the expansions, as well as how important it is to get the “content pipeline right”. The original Destiny struggled with content initially and did not get into its own until well into the 2nd expansion. Hirshberg said that there will be two expansion, one in winter and one in spring, while there will constantly be “events” keeping the players interested.

Of course, he did point out the pre-orders, saying that they are “among the top in Activision publishing history” and that people prefer the package with the expansion pass. This is hardly a surprise, having in mind the popularity of the original.

Destiny 2 will be out in early September 2017, on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
