Death Stranding Gamescom 2019 Trailer Shows Uncut Gameplay Footage
We asked for it, and now we’ve got it – there’s finally a decently sized video that contains nothing but Death Stranding gameplay footage. It comes from this year’s Gamescom, the big fancy show that takes place in Cologne each year. Scroll down to watch it, then pop back up so we can talk about whatever it is you’ve just seen.
That’s six minutes of uninterrupted footage there. Some are bewildered by the video, others are in awe. Others still, like myself, like the game less and less the more they see of it. Sure, you can press X to piss. That’s nice. You can even aim it, and there’s a meter telling you how full your tank is. That’s all well and good, but after all that talk about this being a “social stranding game”, and something we’ve never seen before, it’s hard not to be a bit disappointed.
The Gamescom video makes it look like a regular third person adventure game – fighting, exploration, cutscenes, all that jazz. It has the same tool/weapons wheel as every other game of its ilk, except here it houses some weird stuff like an infinite ladder. It seems fairly slow, and packed more with cutscenes that drag on than funny little moments like peeing onto a rock and watching a big mushroom spring up instantly.
Some Kojima fans didn’t like MGSV, but I feel it’s his best work to date – more emergent and thoughtful than the previous stuff he did, with much leaner dialogue and cinematics. In that sense, Death Stranding smells like a step back. However, if you think I’m a big dummy for feeling that way and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with MGS4 and the older ones, then you’re probably in for a treat.
