Death Stranding Director's Cut Release Date & Details Announced
Are you one of the people that just can’t get enough of the fast-paced walking action and intricate exposition-dump dialogue of Death Stranding? Well, I won’t judge you, there’s no accounting for taste. Also, rejoice, for the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding is only two months and some change away! It’s going to include a bunch of new content, such as new missions and battles and more, as well as improved visuals for the PS5, and more.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut Launch Date
The Director’s Cut of Death Stranding is coming out on Friday, September 24th, 2021. It will be exclusive for the PlayStation 5, so if you were hoping that you’d be able to experience the new content on the PS4, I’m sorry to burst your bubble. Sony has really been shunning the millions of people that own a PlayStation 4, and I’m not super-sure that’s a winning strategy, but that’s a whole different can of worms I don’t wanna open here. On the brighter side, those of you that do get a chance to play the Director’s Cut, it does seem worth the upgrade. Here’s what you can look forward to, according to the trailer below.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut New Content
Some of the new content you can expect to see in the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding includes new story missions and boss battles, new delivery methods, improvements to combat, and a goddamn race track called Fragile’s Circuit, because this is a Kojima game, after all, and such strangeness is to be expected. When it comes to combat, you’ll have more options for melee, new guns to play with (including mounted machine guns!), and a firing range to train in. As for the delivery methods, get ready to fool around with a Buddy Bot (the most impractical thing I’ve ever seen), a jump ramp, and my personal favorite, the Cargo Gun.
Of course, there are also all the improvements that the PS5 makes possible. These include extra immersion through haptic feedback 3D Audio, faster load times, the game running at 60 fps and up to 4k, you get the idea. If you want more info on the content of the Director’s Cut, or see it in action, you can check out the trailer below, as well as this post on PlayStation Blog.
How to Get Death Stranding Director’s Cut
To get the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding, there are basically two avenues that you can pursue. The first one is, obviously, to simply purchase a copy. However, if you already own Death Stranding on PS4, you’ll have the option to upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition of the Director’s Cut for just ten bucks/ten euros. However, there’s a catch. You can only do this if you have a PS5 with the disc tray, because you need to have the PS4 CD in the tray whenever you want to play/download the Director’s Cut. If you have the cheaper PS5 without the disc tray, I’m sorry to say you’re out of luck – you’ll just have to buy the game again.
