Chalice Dungeons are areas in Bloodborne, separate from the main game. They are completely optional, but offer nice rewards and an extra challenge if you’re up to it.

In order to access them, you need to have certain items on you and perform the Chalice Ritual in Hunter’s Dream. In this guide, we’ll show you how to enter all the different Chalice Dungeons you can explore, as well as the materials necessary to open them up.
How To Open Chalice Dungeons
First of all, you need a Holy Chalice. You can get some by defeating bosses in the main game, while others are unlocked by beating Chalice Dungeons. You also need materials, like Ritual Blood or Tomb Mold. You can buy the basic components in the Messenger Bath shop, but stronger materials can only be found during your journey. Lastly, you need a certain amount of Blood Echoes. Now you can go to one of the Ritual Altars in Hunter’s Dream and perform the Chalice Ritual.
How To Perform Chalice Ritual
Select one of the Ritual Altars – you can use whichever you like, except the first one.
Select the “Chalice Ritual” option.
Choose a Chalice – there are four tabs, representing four types of chalice.
Press “Conduct Ritual”. If you have enough Blood Echoes and materials, you’ll be teleported to the dungeon.
If you wish to leave the dungeon, you can use the lamp to teleport back to Hunter’s Dream. The dungeon will stay open until you close it manually, so you can come back if the challenge proves too high.
How To Beat Chalice Dungeons
You beat a dungeon by exploring it and defeating all of the bosses inside. Every dungeon has a set number of floors, and there is a boss at the end of each. If you’re having trouble finding the boss, follow the lanterns – yellow means you’re on the right track, purple means locked, while turquoise signifies a door you’ve unlocked.
The strength of enemies you’ll encounter is predetermined, so you should leave and level up your character and weapons if you feel a particular dungeon is too hard for you. The bosses can either be slightly modified versions of regular Bloodborne bosses, or beefed up versions of plain enemies.
You can also invite other players to help you out with your dungeons. It works similarly to the way regular co-op does – the guests get part of the reward in return for helping. We also have a detailed guide on Chalice Dungeon Co-op.
List Of Chalice Dungeons
There are four types of chalices – Pthumeru, Hintertomb, Loran and Isz. Each type contains several chalices with different number of floors, difficulty and loot. The ones with the word “Root” in their name are randomized, while all the others have set parameters. Root dungeons can be spiced up by using special rite materials, like Bastard of Loran and Sage’s Wrist. This gives you a better chance at getting rare items like the Lost and Uncanny weapons, but also increases the difficulty.
There is also an interesting thing about Root dungeons. If someone gets a great reward from a Root dungeon, and shares the glyph code from that Root dungeon, anyone who enters the same glyph code will get the same great reward. To do this, you should choose the “Search By Glyph” option in the Altar menu, then input the code. Likewise, if you want to share the glyph of your current dungeon, go to the altar, interact with it and look in the lower right corner to find the Chalice Glyph. In this way you can be sure that a random dungeon will reward you with some special weapons or materials that you need.
Finally, there are Sinister chalices, which are used for PvP. These have to be bought from vendors inside the dungeons, and they allow people to invade you while you’re raiding. Sinister dungeons also have randomized rooms, enemies and loot.
