Withers Not Showing Up in BG3, Baldur’s Gate 3 Explore the Ruins Quest Bugged

UPDATE: The bug in the BG3 Explore the Ruins, where Withers isn’t showing up, still doesn’t have an official solution. Your best option remains trying to reload a save or starting the whole game over. Or just keep going and wait for Withers to appear in your camp by himself, since that has been confirmed to work. Heck, that’s what we did. Talking to him (without antagonizing the NPC in any way) sometimes completes the quest as if you were speaking in the tomb as intended.

If Withers is not showing up during the Baldur’s Gate 3 or BG3 Explore the Ruins quest, then yes, your game is bugged. This NPC is supposed to appear in the Dank Crypt, after you get to a small room with a fancy sarcophagus in it. Opening the sarcophagus makes Withers appear and talk to you (you might need the Speak with the Dead amulet to pull it off, I’m not sure). After that, he asks you a question, and regardless of your answer, he eventually sets up shop in your camp. He’s important, because he lets you respec your character and companions and he can revive dead characters. For a fee, of course, but his services are worth every penny.

So, if the Explore the Ruins quest is bugged and Withers is not showing up in Baldur’s Gate 3 or BG3, you are losing out on some potentially important mechanics. I don’t think it will completely break your save and make the game unbeatable, but it will make things unnecessarily difficult at the least. Now, as far as we know, there is no way to fix this glitch, aside from maybe reloading a save before you went down into the Dank Crypt, or starting a whole new save. I have seen people say that you should just revisit your camp from time to time and Withers will eventually appear. I hope that’s true, because we got hit by the same bug.
