What is The Absolute in Baldur's Gate? Best Theories Explained
Even though it isn’t even out yet, there are many mysteries and questions in Baldur’s Gate 3. Out of all of these, one conundrum dominates much of the online discourse surrounding the game. Namely – who, or what is The Absolute? This secretive organization or person seems to be responsible for much of the events in BG3. In our What is The Absolute in Baldur’s Gate? Best Theories Explained article, we are going to analyze all of the available information to see if we can figure out the true identity behind The Absolute and what it wants.
What is The Absolute in BG3?
To begin with, we have to point out that this is all just speculation. We won’t know the real identity, purpose, and motivations of The Absolute for sure until Baldur’s Gate 3 is released and we have had the chance to play through the entire game. However, this does not mean that there aren’t several important clues as to The Absolute’s intentions and role.
Firstly, it is important to differentiate between The Absolute and The Cult of The Absolute. The Cult is subservient to the wishes of The Absolute itself. Most of the characters that you meet which mention The Absolute are merely servents of its Cult. Next, The Absolute’s symbol. It is made up of the Holy Symbols of the Dead Three. These are: Myrkul, Bane, and, of course, Bhaal. While they were dead during the events of Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, they are alive – though greatly reduced in power – in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Thus, The Absolute is almost definitely connected to them. As Bhaal and his attempts to resurrect drove the main plot in BG1 and BG2, it only makes sense that he is also a central figure in BG3 as well. Also, it’s very possible that The Dark Urge Origin is going to somehow be even more connected adn integral to The Absolute than other Origins.
