BG3 Selune Chest in Owlbear Nest
Can’t figure out how to open the Selune Chest in the Owlbear Nest in Baldur’s Gate 3 without getting damaged? Don’t worry, we’re here to help. It is pretty sneaky, I’m not gonna lie. You have to find a hidden Prayer Sheet dedicated to the goddess Selune, whose treasures you’re trying to loot. Only reading the sheet will let you access the loot without getting smacked. Here’s what you have to do.
How to Open Selune Chest in Owlbear Nest BG3
To open Selune’s Gilded Chest in the Owlbear Nest cave in Baldur’s Gate 3 or BG3, you first have to jump to the area across the chasm, the one with the giant statue of Selune. Before you do, be sure to cast Guidance on the party or the character you’re controlling in order to help with your rolls. Behind the statue, there’s a hidden Prayer Sheet, and you’ll have to pass a Perception and maybe a Religion check in order to find it. Pick the sheet up and hold it in your inventory. Hop back towards the chest and read the prayer in order to open it safely. Note that a cleric, especially Shadowheart, will refuse to read it. Just give the sheet to any other character.
And there you have it, that’s how you safely open the Gilded Chest of Selune in the Owlbear Nest in Baldur’s Gate 3. Keep in mind that Shadowheart will not be happy if you do this, though. She is a cleric of Shar, who is Selune’s number one enemy. Never wise to make your healer mad, but then again, Shar is evil, so whatever. Plus, the loot you get in Selune’s chest is really cool. One more note, though: after looting the stuff, you will have to make a Sleight of Hand check. I don’t know what happens if you fail, but it’s probably nothing good. I mean, you’re looting the treasures of a powerful goddess; serious danger is to be expected. Best of luck to you!
Another quick test shows that you can circumvent loosing attitude with Shadowheart by using literally any other character for the check, as they will take the fall. Or even more simply by having Shadowheart do the looting herself.
(A bit sad Larian didn’t make it so that she grumbles and refuses to loot it…)
If you don’t have Shadowheart with you while you loot the chest, you don’t get the Sleight of Hand check. A “-5 attitude to Tav” appearing over Shadowheart on a failed check leads us to assume that the check is there not to appease Selune in any way, but simply in order to keep Shadowheart from finding out about you taking items blessed by Selune or some such.
Further, the check is triggered by any and all items taken from the chest, but only on the first item or on use of the “Take all” button.
Taking multiple items does not cause Shadowheart to loose further attitude points towards Tav.
