Baldur's Gate 3 Arrives Early on PC, PS5 Release Pushed to September
Initially, Baldur’s Gate 3 was supposed to release on August 31st, 2023, for both PC, Xbox, and PS5. However, this is no longer the case. In a surprising twist, developer Larian Studios announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 arrives early on the PC, while the PS5 release will be pushed to September. Naturally, some players are very pleased about this, while others are – understandably – perplexed and upset. But why is this happening in the first place and is this simulataneous early and delayed release cause for alarm? We’ll do our best to explain why this is the case.
When is BG3 Releasing on PC and PS5?
Baldur’s Gate 3 is going to release on the PC on August 3rd, 2023. And as for PS5, the new release date is going to be September 6th, 2023.
Why is BG3 Arriving Early on the PC & Delayed on PS5?
While this has not been officially confirmed by Larian, we can hazard an educated guess that this is most likely because of Starfield. The initial BG3 release date was August 31st, while Starfield is set to come out less than a week later, on September 6th. Since two such big and highly-anticipated games releasing practically side-by-side would essentially force them to compete with one another, and since Starfield would probably be the winner here, the choice to release early on the PC seems like a logical choice on Larian’s part. Besides, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in Early Access for three years now, so releasing a bit earlier shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
That covers the PC, but what about the PS5 delay? Well, the reason for this is that Larian want to make sure that the game runs at a stable 60 FPS on the PS5, so they need a bit more time to further otpimize it. As for the Xbox version of the game, we still don’t know when it is coming, as there appears to be problems with optimizing Baldur’s Gate 3 Split-Screen on Xbox Series S.
