AC Valhalla Creative Director Talks Birds, Hoods and Beards
Remember how arduous pulling your hood up was in some of the last Assassin’s Creed games? How you had to open up a menu, then look for a tiny, teeny button prompt hidden away in a corner less traveled? Well that is history. Forget that it ever happened. In a recent interview, the game’s creative director, Ashraf Ismail, confirmed that the whole hood business will be much more enjoyable in AC Valhalla. He also tackled several other important topics, like birds and beards.
If you’re interested in hearing the entire chat he had with a couple of Washington Post journalists, you can do so here. If not, we’re going to chew up the most important bits and spit them into your collective mouth, like a grotesque mama bird. Ca-caw!
Let’s get the bird thing out of the way so we can drop this terrible analogy and forget it ever happened. Eivor, like so many assassins before him, will have a bird buddy. This time, it’s going to be a raven called Synin. You’ll be able to use Synin to scout the surroundings, but the developers have mentioned the bird will have a bigger toolbox than the ones before.
As for the hood – you will be able to pull it up or take it off at will, and it won’t require fiddling with menus. This probably means there will be a dedicated hood button, which is an idea that brings me all kinds of joy.
Valhalla is the first AC game that will allow you to customize the appearance of your character. It won’t be much – it’s still going to be Eivor no matter what you do – but you’ll be able to change the style and hair of the color, as well as the beard if you’re playing as Boyvor. You’ll also be allowed to change the tattoos and war paint
