New Assassin’s Creed Origins Trailer Shows Us the Order of the Ancients
A new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Origins has been released. It focuses on the Order of the Ancients a mysterious and powerful cabal of people who manipulate the pharaoh and through him, the whole of Egypt; according to the voiceover, they seek to claim the power of the gods.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is set in ancient Egypt, in the time before the assassins or the templars even existed. The protagonist, Bayek (who sports a rather familiar hood), the last of the magi, has to thwart the machinations of the Order of the Ancients.
According to previous interviews, the magi were the keepers of order and tradition in the Ubisoft’s version of ancient Egypt. Since Bayek is supposed to be the embodiment of the nation, the story focuses on what he must become when his world is dying, soon to be replaced by the new? What does he need to become as he starts creating the Brotherhood of the Assassins?
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve noticed that the Order are dead ringers for the Templars. A powerful, secretive group who manipulate events from the shadows and rule through their puppet on the throne. And just like the modern Templars sought the Apple of Eden, their ancient expys seek the “power of the ancient gods”. Three guesses as to what that might be.
The trailer showcases some very nicely choreographed combat, starring masked Order of the Ancients agents. One of them looks suspiciously like Anubis, the Egyptian god of the afterlife. Has the Order already succeeded in attaining divine power? Perhaps Bayek has to take down a member of the order who has attained the mantle of Anubis; a tall order, even for the man who is probably the very first Assassin.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is to be released on October 27 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
