Destiny 2 Legendary Mods – How to Acquire Them?

There are several ways to get Destiny 2 Legendary Mods. The first possible route is Infusion. Always inspect the exotic gear you get. Often times, you’ll see that they have a Legendary Mod already inserted. If it has the mod you want, even if the gear itself is lower Light level than you’d want, you should keep it. Infuse the modded gear with something else that has a higher Light level. You’ll keep the mod and have a more powerful piece of gear. Be advised, this doesn’t work the other way around. If you try to infuse another weapon with a modded weapon, then the mod will be lost.

You can check out our Destiny 2 Infusion & Legendary Mods – How to Infuse Gear guide for more detailed instructions. Here’s how it works in brief, though. Say you have one Exotic weapon with a higher Power level, and another with a lower Power level, but with a Legendary mod. You can infuse the modded weapon with the higher Power weapon, and you’ll keep the +5 bonus from the mod. But, if you accidentally use a modded weapon to infuse a non-modded one, then the Mod is gone.

The second method is ranking up Reputation at the Gunsmith, Banshee-44. He’ll give you Engrams that have a good chance to drop a Legendary Mod. Odds are good that you’ll get lots of them that you absolutely don’t need, though. In fact, during your time with Destiny 2, you’ll likely amass a good number of Legendary Mods that you’ll have no idea what to do with. Don’t despair, though, because they can be of some use yet.

Crafting Legendary Mods in Destiny 2 is the third way to get one that you need. You can dismantle any Legendary Mods that you don’t want, and you’ll get Mod Components. For two Mod Components and 1000 Glimmer, The Gunsmith will make you a random Legendary Mod. The trade-off is a bit risky, considering the RNG factor. There’s still a chance that Banshee will give you a mod that you can’t use, but hey, it’s worth rolling the dice. Also worth mentioning is that dismantling a piece of modded gear itself doesn’t give you any Mod Components, so be careful.

The fourth, and probably most reliable way to get those Mods, requires you to have a Power Level of 280. Once you hit that level, The Gunsmith will allow you to convert Mods to Legendary. To create a Legendary Mod this way, you’ll need three blue mods of the same type. Let’s say you want a Legendary Arc Damage Mod for your weapon. You have to have three blue Arc Damage Mods to make one Legendary. It’s a pretty small sacrifice, because those blue mods are all but useless to you at that level, and you know exactly which mod you’re getting, no RNG involved.

Generally true, except the part about getting so many from gunsmith engrams you won’t know what to do with them. They have a pretty low drop rate from there. I’ve ranked up 22 times with the gunsmith, and gotten maybe 2 or 3, compared to the roughly 80 blue mods I have no use for, that don’t seem to dismantle into anything other than glimmer.

Legendary mods never, ever drop for me off kills. I’ve also leveled up with the gunsmith a LOT and have only been awarded two.

Is there a method to actually get them if they don’t magically appear in your inventory as the guide suggests?
