The last time we got to enjoy a glimpse of the new area was more than a month ago. The two screenshots from back then showed far less than the latest one. One was more memorable, as it was showing a glimpse of a bicycle. We got to see a diner, a railroad and more.

The latest screenshot features a town, giving us a glimpse of the central area. There were rumors that this map is probably located in Peru and that it’s a rather small one. It was supposed to be only 4km x 4km (2.5×2.5 miles), compared to the 8km x 8km (5×5 miles) of the live one. The edges of the canyon make it clear where the new zone is placed.

The earliest sketches show a large portion of this small area will be covered in buildings. It is understandable that this one is a lot smaller than the main one. It will make interaction with other players more regular in the early game, and looting in taller buildings more useful than in the current map.

The release date for the new desert map remains a mystery. Considering that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is planned to go out of early access by the end of the year, we might get to enjoy it soon enough.

Beside the desert map, there is one more planned for release in the near future. It will take place in the Adriatic area of the Mediterranean. Unlike the desert one, it will feature a lot of green areas, while being mostly covered in snow.
