Divinity: Original Sin 2 Co-op Spotlight Video Released
Larian Studios have released a co-op spotlight video for Divinity: Original Sin 2, their upcoming RPG, and it’s the best thing you’re going to see all day. The video explains exactly how coop play will work, and shows some nice and simple ways to be a backstabbing jerk.
We’ve already seen how the game master mode will work, trying to bridge the gap between pen and paper RPGs and videogames. This time, we get to see regular coop – the game’s singleplayer campaign played by up to four players, with no dungeon master involved.
The first thing to note is how flexible it is. The players can connect both locally and online – in the video, two of them are playing splitscreen on a single system (using gamepads), while the other two are using mice and keyboards, connected to them via the internet.
The video then shows the four of them going on a quest. However, one decides to screw everything up. He steals a sword from a merchant, and plants it on another party member. That party member then gets stopped by the guards, who search him, find stolen goods and throw him in jail.
The other two try to rescue him, but they get caught in the act. The treacherous one decides he’s had enough fun and goes into the prison, killing everyone in his path, only to discover his friends have escaped on their own using a secret passage. He finds a stack of healing potions and picks them up, oblivious to the fact they’ve been poisoned by his friends. He ends up drinking one of the potions while in a pinch, and the resulting poisoning amuses the rest of the party to no end. Of course, they could’ve played nice, but where’s the fun in that?
