Gwent Thronebreaker Singleplayer Campaign Announced
CDProjekt RED have announced the first singleplayer campaign for Gwent. It’s called Thronebreaker, and it stars Meve, a character you might be familiar with if you’ve read the books. They’ve revealed just a tiny bit of info and released a rather uninspiring trailer for it. At least the animations looks much better than they did this time last year.
The campaign is going to revolve around Meve, the queen of Rivia, and her quest for vengeance. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine. I hope she yells “Off with their heads!” a lot. Here’s the official blurb:
Thronebreaker is a single player story campaign which spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms. Facing an imminent invasion, she is forced to once again enter the warpath, and sets out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.
The campaign is meant to introduce characters that couldn’t fit into previous games, let us explore new areas and, most importantly, play custom battles that twist the rules in fun ways.
But wait, there’s more! They’ve also announced the establishing of the official esports league for Gwent, called Gwent Masters. It’s hardly surprising, what with everything being an esport these days. If you want to be the very best, like no one ever was, here’s how it’ll work: the first step is adding a pro ladder mode. This will be separate from ranked competitive, and distinguishable by its extra competitiveness. Those who do good here will go into Gwent Open tournaments, where they’ll battle for money and entry into the Gwent Challenger tournaments, where they’ll battle for money and entry into the Gwent Masters tournament. The last one will yield a single winner, the bestest of the best – but that’s supposed to happen in January 2019.
