Destiny 2 PC Open Beta Trailer Boasts Uncapped Framerate, 4K Support
There’s a trailer for Destiny 2’s PC beta, and it’s up on the Nvidia channel. Guess who’s getting the short end of the optimisation stick, yet again? If you’ve followed the console beta, you can skip the trailer – it’s stuff you’ve already seen and know about. If you’ve been saving yourself for the PC version, now’s the time to see what you can expect.
The beta will begin on August 29th, and it will be available to everyone. All you need to do in order to access it is register an account on Battle.net. If you preorder it, you can start playing the beta a day earlier – but it’s not really worth it. You’ll blitz through the content on show in an afternoon, so there’s no point in having that extra day.
As for what’s inside, it’s pretty much the same as the console beta, with some tweaks based on feedback. There’ll be one story mission (the introduction), one strike (Inverted Spire) and two crucible modes (the one from the previous game, and one with a bomb to set/defuse). You’ll start with a pre-made, decked out Guardian, and you won’t get to choose your race or gender. Console players got a tour of the new social space as well, but there’s no mention of it in the PC beta trailer.
The video focuses on accolades the game got from the press, during conventions and such. They also make quite a big deal out of their 4K resolution support and uncapped framerate, clearly forgetting they’re now targeting an audience that takes at least one of those things for granted.
Destiny 2 is going to be released on PC on October 24th, while Xbox One and Playstation 4 players will get it almost two months earlier, on September 6th. The devs need the extra time to cram all the extra pixels inside.
