West of Loathing Coming Out in August, Has New Trailer
West of Loathing, the new game from Assymetric, is coming out in August. If any of those names sound familiar, you may remember the online game that put the studio on the map – it’s a little thing called Kingdom of Loathing. There’s no exact date yet, but it can’t be more than two months away, so it’s pretty much a done deal. There’s also a new trailer to accompany the announcement.
If you’ve played KoL, you can already see where this is going – it’s a western set in the same world. If not, it’s a bit harder to describe why exactly you should care. It’s a stick-people RPG set in a fantasy version of the wild west where dad jokes are a way of life. It’s a game that describes plum pudding as:
They call this plum pudding becase it’s made of goat milk extracted from plump udders.
It’s a game that will let you choose between classes like Cow Puncher, Beanslinger and Snake Oiler. If that’s your kind of thing, it never stops being funny. The trailer they’ve released is aimed more at the KoL crowd – it’s “23 minutes of West of Loathing in 37 seconds”. Even if you slow the video down to one fourth of the original speed, you’re still going to miss things. If you have the time and energy for a frame-by-frame viewing, you’re probably not going to regret it. Maybe?
Thankfully, Kingdom of Loathing is still as free as ever, and you can try it on for size by registering on the official site. If that turns out to be your kind of fun, it’s probably safe to assume the upcoming West of Loathing will, as well. It’s going to be released on PC, expensive PC and free-as-in-free-speech PC first, with an iOS version coming at a later date.
