Activision Hinting at Future Crash Bandicoot Games

The remaster of the first three Crash Bandicoot games has completely exploded. The incredible sales of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy have apparently prompted Activision to consider future Crash games. They might not be certain whether this is just a niche, nostalgia-driven thing or if it’s the start of something bigger, but they’ll be “experimenting with Crash”.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy seems to have surprised pretty much everyone with its instant success. It exploded on number one in so many gaming charts, including the UK gaming sales chart. It even blew Horizon Zero Dawn right out of the water in first-week sales. It’s a smash hit, and, of course, Activision noticed. In a recent interview with Gamesindustry, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg had the following to say:

We are experimenting with Crash. We know there’s a vocal fanbase that wanted that to come back. But you never know if that is emblematic of a larger audience or just this niche, nostalgia-based community. So far, we are seeing some real passion for it, so that could lead to other things.

Of course, we are always trying to find the next big thing. But our first priority is to make sure we are servicing the communities that we are already lucky enough to have.

Whether or not this was just an outburst of nostalgia, it’s really cool to see Crash back in the spotlight. While it’s true that he never managed to truly become as big as Mario or Sonic, there were still many good Crash Bandicoot games. I mean, if Bubsy is making a comeback, why wouldn’t Crash? Hopefully, we’ll even see a new game, one that doesn’t just rehash what made the originals so beloved. At the very least, Activision could give us a remaster or remake of Crash Team Racing.
