Assassin's Creed Origins Combat & Weapons Explained
When it was first shown at E3, Assassin’s Creed Origins surprised everyone with a revamped combat system. Taking a break seems to be what the series needed, and now it’s back with a whole new way to fight. We’ve seen it in action, but nobody delved deep enough to really explain it. Thankfully, game director Ashraf Ismail took it upon himself to go into detail about it.
Speaking with Game Informer, Ismail explains how they first decided to introduce hitboxes to the series. You can now miss when swinging a weapon or shooting an arrow, so there’s much more skill involved. The melee weapons are enhanced by an adrenaline bar. You fill it up when you use them, and when it’s full, you can unleash a devastating attack.
The game will force you to specialize – if you want to be stealthy, you’ll do so at the expense of something else. The crafting system will play a big role in the game, letting you create weapons and armor to suit your needs. They’ll enhance different stats, and you’ll even get to upgrade your hidden blades. Weapon damage is divided into melee, ranged and stealth, and you’ll want to invest the most in the kind you use often.
The weapons won’t have durability, so you won’t have to worry about wearing them out. There will be over 160 unique pieces in the game, across different levels and rarieties. As the enemies get stronger, you’ll have to switch out your gear to match their strength.
You’ll have unlimited inventory space, so there’s no worry about running out of room. An option to sort it will be available, to let you sift thorough your inifinite backpack more quickly. You’ll be able to equip two bows and two melee weapons, with the ability to quickly switch between them.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is going to be released on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on October 27th.
