Rocket League Will Run at 720p & 60 FPS on Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch version of Rocket League will run at 60 FPS and 720p, both docked and undocked, according to Psyonix VP Jeremy Dunham. The performance will remain constant even in two-player and four-player split-screen mode. This will require other sacrifices of graphics, the exact nature of which we don’t yet know.
One of the annoncements that Nintendo made during their E3 2017 presentation was that Rocket League will come to the Switch. We didn’t get much more info than that. The E3 trailer mentions that the Switch port will include exclusive cars and customization items, such as the Mario hat. Also, it will support cross-platform play with Xbox One and PC players. No PS4 players allowed, though, because Sony is acting like an overprotective parent and not letting them have fun with the other kids. Yes, I know PlayStation 4 owners can play with PC players, that’s not the point.
Anyway, Psyonix VP Jeremy Dunham revealed a little more about the Switch port of Rocket League to Gamespot. He told them that they’re aiming to make the game run at a stable 60 FPS and 720p, regardless of whether or not you’re playing docked or undocked. To achieve that kind of performance, they might have to make some other sacrifices when graphics are concerned. We don’t know exactly what those are going to be. Either way, when you’re playing Rocket League on the go, or in split-screen with friends, who’s gonna notice?
Rocket League is coming out on the Nintendo Switch this holiday season. It will certainly be a great addition to the growing library of games the console has to offer. This is, of course, on top of the upcoming first-party content, such as Super Mario Odyssey, the Breath of the Wild DLC, and more.
