Destiny 2 Guided Games Block Access to Heroic Activities
Raids and Nightfall Strikes in Destiny 2 will keep the Guided Games matchmaking system. However, Bungie plans to restrict Heroic activities from Guided Games. Players that want to play Heroic-tier strikes and raids will have to find people to play with on their own.
Destiny 2 will be introducing many changes to the formula of the original. For one, they’re changing up how the death penalty in raids works. Another thing they’re tweaking are faction vendors in Destiny 2. The list doesn’t stop there. It seems that Guided Games won’t allow access to Heroic Activities. Players will have to have an established group to play with if they want in on the Heroics.
Luke Smith, the director of Destiny 2, talked about this change on Kotaku’s Splitscreen podcast. Here’s an excerpt of what he said on the subject of Guided Games:
I don’t know exactly how the Challenge Mode layers are going to work [with Guided Games], but the normal-tier activities will be Guided Games, and the Heroics will be find-your-own.
In the original Destiny, Guided Games was a way to bridge the fact that the game didn’t really have any matchmaking for Nightfall Strikes and raids. That being the case, players could access both normal-tier and Heroic activities this way. The decision to block off Heroics like this will certainly polarize many players.
On one hand, keeping Guided games is a good move. It will allow players that are usually solo find new people to play with more easily. On the other hand, they better make friends with these people vary quickly and efficiently if they want to take part in Heroic activities. We’ll see how everything will play out once the game launches.
Destiny 2 will launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox one on September 6th. The PC version will come a long while later, on October 24th.
