South Park: The Fractured But Whole Video Shows New Combat System
South Park: The Fractured But Whole was one of the games Ubisoft showed off on their annual friendly gathering at E3. Unlike most of them, though, they actually had a whole lot to show here. There are two trailers for the TV-show-gone-RPG, and one of them contains ten minutes of raw, unedited gameplay footage.
The first video reminds us of the conflict at the core of the game, a rivalry that develops after a group of superheroes leaves Cartman’s franchise. You get to play a double agent, infiltrating the rogue group to help The Coon and co. It also reveals Timmy as an homage to Charles Xavier, Wendy as Call Girl (with a bunch of phones taped all over her) and Scott Malkinson as Captain Diabetes.
The second video follows you and Captain Diabetes on a mission to find missing cats. It starts off in the bathroom of the Peppermint Hippo strip club, where a drunk patron is shooting an endless stream of piss into a urinal. You can slap his ass if you want to. The kids need to buy a private dance in order to get into the VIP area. It’s all very South Park, and it only escalates as times passes. There’s even a lap dancing mini game.
More importantly, there’s a battle in there as well, and we can see the combat system has been completely revamped. There’s an actual playing field now, instead of the old JRPG system where everyone just stands there, swinging at each other. Apart from choosing the appropriate skills for teh situation, you’ll also have to worry about positioning and obstacles in the field. It adds depth to a system that was sorely lacking in heft the first time around.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole is going to launch on October 17th, on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
