Shadow of the Colossus Coming to PlayStation 4 in 2018
Sony announced during their E3 conference that they’re bringing Shadow of the Colossus to PlayStation 4. It remains unclear whether it will be a remaster like on the PS3, or a full-on remake. The game will come out in 2018, and it will feature updated graphics for the new console generation.
Whenever somebody brings up the subject of video games as art, you can bet Shadow of the Colossus will make its way into the conversation, and for good reason. The game originally came out back in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, and it became one of the highest-reviewed and most beloved games of its time. The gameplay and, more importantly, its sparse and visual storytelling coupled with heavy atmosphere took the world by storm. Its really no surprise that it still makes its way into most best games of all time lists.
For those that don’t know, you play as Wander, who brings a dead girl called Mono to an abandoned, mysterious shrine. A deity called Dormin speaks to you, and sends you on a quest to kill the Colossi. In return, it will resurrect Mono. On your journey through the wasteland around the shrine, your only companion is your horse Agro. As you play, you slowly uncover bits of the mystery around the shrine. To say anything more would be spoiling it, and I wouldn’t want to do that, because those that haven’t played the game will soon be able to do so.
During their E3 conference, Sony revealed that they’ll release a PS4 version of Shadow of the Colossus in 2018. In the reveal trailer, which you can watch below, we can see that they’ve updated the graphics for the new generation of consoles. That’s, unfortunately, pretty much all we know at this point. Whether or not the PS4 version will be another remaster (the game already got one on the PS3), or if it will be a full remake remains to be seen. Either way, if you’ve missed out on the experience that is Shadow of the Colossus, make sure you pick it up next year. You won’t regret it.
