Dishonored: Death of The Outsider Spin-Off Announced at E3
One of the new things announced during Bethesda’s E3 press conference is Dishonored: Death of The Outsider. It’s a spin-off that stars assassin extraordinaire Billie Lurk, also known as tugboat captain Megan Foster. It’s going to come out on September 15th on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4, and it’s going to cost $30. There’s a trailer to accompany the announcement.
The story follows Billie as she reunites with Daud, her former mentor and the man who murdered Emily Kaldwin’s mother, setting the events of the first game in motion. The two then conspire to murder the Outsider himself. It’ll be interesting to see how it pans out, since the Outsider is the one responsible for the fact any of them have supernatural powers in the first place.
Arkane seems reluctant to let go of their characters even after their stories reach a satifactory conclusion. Corvo had no business being a playable character in Dishonored 2, yet there he was. Daud got a perfect redemption in the low chaos versions of Knife of Dunwall and Brigamore Witches, yet here he is. Hopefully not as a playable character, at least.
Everyone expected Arkane to announce a piece of story DLC for Dishonored 2 this E3, yet they came out with a spin-off. It’s probably better this way – Knife of Dunwall was a better story than what the base game had to offer, and it was only available to those who bought both. This way, people are going to be able to enjoy Death of the Outsider without having played Dishonored 2, and that will only broaden its reach.
The most interesting thing about it, though, is the official description, which calls it “the first standalone adventure in the critically acclaimed Dishonored series”. Hopefully this means we’ll get more short stories of this kind, set in the fabulous Dishonored universe, that don’t involve Corvo.
