Hover: Revolt of Gamers Launch Trailer Released

Despite the utterly terrible name, Hover: Revolt of Gamers seems like just the thing to fill the Jet Set Radio-shaped hole in our hearts. It’s been in early access for two years now, and today it finally leaves the dreaded place. The developers have released a launch trailer to celebrate, and possibly talk you into buying it.

Although it’s described as a “fast-paced parkour game”, it’s obviously more Jet Set Radio than Mirror’s Edge. Yes, there’s an evil corporation to fight, and yes, you do seem to spend a lot of times on various rooftops, but just look at it. You have glowing neon roller skates that leave a trail of light, you grind off railings and spend far too much time in the air. It even has Hideki Naganuma, the composer of the Jet Set Radio OST, on board.

As you race around the neon expanse of the city, you’ll get to unlock an uncertain number of playable characters (the video says nine, while the website insists it’s ten), build up a team, improve their abilities with equipment upgrades, perform cool tricks and get rewarded for it.

There’s a campaign with over 90 missions, and the game has seamless multiplayer. You can play everything alone or with a handful of friends. You can also compete with said friends in different disciplines, like gameball matches (the devs are obviously not really good at naming things). Finally, there’s an editor that allows you to create your own challenges.

Although it’s supposed to launch today, the Steam page still shows it as an early access game – give it time, though, the day isn’t over yet. The developers say they’re planning console versions for later during the year, and we know that includes Xbox One and Playstation 4. There’s no mention of a Switch version.
