Far Cry 5 Release Date Revealed in Announcement Trailer

Ubisoft have released the announcement trailer for Far Cry 5, detailing the environment and backstory of the game. We already knew it would take place in Hope County, Montana, but the video goes into a little more detail. They’ve also published three short character vignette videos, introducing some of your comrades (or perhaps playable characters?). To top it off, they’ve also revaled the release date, which is set for next February.

So, this time it’s hillbilly fundamentalists that are the bad guys. You could say it’s relevant to current events, but Ubisoft probably just got tired of being constantly criticized for featuring a white protagonist and having people of color as enemies. Fall’s End is a simple place, where people lead simple lives. They go fishing, they hunt, they sit in rocking chairs on their front porches, chewing on straws. They’re as stereotypicaly midwestern as a community can get. But then an insane preacher comes out of nowhere with his posse, and decides he should be the despot of Fall’s End.

Thankfully, there are some who oppose him. That’s where the character vignette videos come in – once again, we aren’t sure whether these are potential player characters, or simply much needed friendly faces:

• Pastor Jerome Jeffries – A preacher whose church was burnt down by the crazies. The father has decided he’s had enough of being a shepherd, instead opting for the role of wolf.
• Nick Rye – A pilot whose ancestors fought in wars so he wouldn’t have to. How naive of them. Now he mounts a gattling gun on his plane, to protect his unborn child from the religious zealots.
• Mary May Fairgrave – An inkeeper whose father thought the crazies would help them. Instead they took away her mother and brother, leaving her father to wrestle with the guilt.

Far Cry 5 is going to be released on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on February 27th.
