Resident Evil Revelations PS4/Xbox One port footage released
Resident Evil Revelations started as a spin-off on 3DS in 2012. It was met with a solid reception, as the game featured a significant break with the tradition of Resi 5 and 6 sequels going over the top more and more. The title opted for a more “old-school” survival horror feeling, more in the style of Resident Evil 4.
The game was initially ported to PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U and PC. We already announced the PS4 and Xbox One release earlier, but this time there are videos as well, showing off the progress. The game looks very solid for its age (especially considering it was initially a 3DS title) and the fans will probably care more the gameplay which is probably the most “old-school” you can go without actually playing the original titles, their remasters or Code Veronica.
The game follows the further adventures of Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. A ghost ship in the Mediterranean Sea was an excellent change from the stale formula, bringing with it claustrophobic hallways and some new, vomit-inducing and sea-life-inspired enemies. There is, of course, a bioterrorist organization behind it all and they are trying to infect oceans with a virus, because, honestly, would you not if you were a bioterrorist organization in possession of a deadly virus?
Revelations 2 came out in 2015, but was for some weird reason in episodic form. While this type of release benefited games like Hitman, where each level is an enclosed, practically endlessly replayable environment, there was no need to do this with the Resident Evil Revelations 2. Still, the game received solid reviews and there might be more in the same line, as the series is not crucial to Capcom, but it is not hugely expensive either and it keeps the fans of the slower gameplay more invested in the brand.
Resident Evil Revelations for PS4 and Xbox One will be out on August 31 in Japan, while European and North American release are expected in the fall. The question remains, though, why is there no Switch version?
