StarCraft Source Code Returned, Finder Gets Free Trip to BlizzCon

The long-lost gold master source code disc of StarCraft has finally found its way back to Blizzard. The disc was found in a “box of Blizzard stuff” by a conscientious Reddit user that bought it off eBay. The finder got a bunch of Overwatch and Diablo paraphernalia, $250 in Blizzard store credit, and a free trip to BlizzCon. Oh, and they’ll take him out for drinks while he’s there.

About a month ago, Redditor Khemist49 posted a photo of a disc he happened upon. The CD was marked as the StarCraft gold master source code, which has been missing for a long time. In true 80s movie fashion, Khemist49 found the CD in a box of random Blizzard stuff he picked up on eBay.

At first, he was understandably unsure what to do. Many people pleaded him to rip the CD and release the code into the wild, even resorting to insults, because Internet. However, it seems that, in the end, Blizzard found out about the CD and reached out directly to Khemist49. They basically asked him to return what was theirs in the first place. So, he did just that, and Blizzard sent him a copy of Overwatch Origins and $250 in Blizzard store credit. Not a bad haul overall, right?

Turns out, Blizzard was only warming up. They got in touch with Khemist over the phone and invited him to BlizzCon, all expenses paid. Not only that, but he’ll also get dinner and drinks with the staff members. Finally, Khemist got a package from Blizzard that contained a bunch of Diablo and Overwatch paraphernalia and PC peripherals.

There’s a lesson we can all learn here today, folks. Always return lost things that you happen to find. It’s the only fair thing to do. This goes double if said item belongs to an enormous corporation. I’m gonna go out and search for something Disney might have misplaced.
