Nintendo Announces New 2DS XL, Launching in July
Pretty much out of nowhere, Nintendo announced the new 2DS XL. The new handheld console boasts the same power that the 3D XL has, as well as the same overall design; folding clamshell, C-stick, NFC reader and XL screens. However, it will be lighter and thinner, since it won’t feature the 3D function. The Nintendo 2DS XL will launch on June 28th with a 150-dollar price tag.
There’s a new member in Nintendo’s handheld console family: the new Nintendo 2DS XL has recently been announced. The announcement came completely out of the blue, without any previous clues that it was going to happen. Nintendo’s new baby is scheduled to launch on July 28th, at the MSRP of 150 dollars. Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said:
This new addition to Nintendo’s portable hardware line demonstrates our commitment to the handheld market. The new Nintendo 2DS XL sports a beautiful clamshell design and offers a great balance between price and performance.
Nintendo also released a trailer for the 2DS XL on the official YouTube channel of Nintendo America. The video lists the features of the new handheld console. You can check it out below.
As you can see, the Nintendo 2DS XL is almost identical to the 3DS XL. It has the same folding clamshell design, XL screens, C-stick, Amiibo functionality, and so on. It will even have the same processing power as the 3DS XL, and it’ll probably support the entire 3DS game library.
Really, the only significant difference is that the 2DS, as the name suggests, doesn’t support the 3D function. However, the 2DS XL will be lighter and thinner than its 3D counterpart. Besides, considering the problems with blurred vision and headaches the 3DS can cause, the lack of 3D support might even be an advantage.
