PlayStation 4 Reaches 60 Million Shipped Units
According to Sony’s earnings report for the previous fiscal year, the PS4 has managed to move a total of sixty million units. It managed to ship twenty million units this financial year, with 2.9 million units shipped in the last quarter. This marks an increase compared to the year before, when 17.7 million PS4 consoles shipped.
We’ve written recently about Nintendo Switch sales numbers, according to Nintendo’s earnings report. Now, Sony revealed their earnings, and with them, we got the PlayStation 4 numbers. The report demonstrates that the PlayStation 4 hit sixty million units shipped during its lifetime so far. They moved 2.9 million consoles in the last quarter alone, adding up to twenty million during last year. However, in Q3, a whopping 9.7 million consoles were sold.
The year before, Sony shipped 17.7 million PS4 consoles, so they’ve experienced a significant boost in sales. This is most likely due to some pretty great games coming out for the console, such as Horizon Zero Dawn. The sixty-million mark is right on the money with Sony’s projected sales. As for the next fiscal year, which will be the console’s fifth year, Sony expects to ship another eighteen million units. Taking into account the current numbers, this might just happen. The PS4 still has a long way to go if it wants to reach the numbers of the PS3, however. Sony’s previous baby managed to ship more than 80 million units. To be fair, the PS3 had a seven-year run. We’ve yet to see if the PlayStation 4 will manage to come out on top.
Analyzing the report a bit further reveals that the PlayStation 4 hardware department is Sony’s only division that’s been turning a profit. The other key products are not doing to well, especially not the mobile phone division. They’re looking at a massive drop from just under 25 million to a measly 14.6 million units.
