Batman Arkham VR Coming to PC, Release Date Announced
Batman: Arkham VR is finally coming to PC, Warner Bros have revealed today. The acclaimed Batman sim is going to be released on PC on April 25th, and it’s going to support both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. It will finally allow a legion of fans to dress up and play Batman without actually dressing up.
Batman Arkham VR was the second most downloaded Playstation VR game of 2016. It won a couple of awards from critics, as well as a BAFTA nomination. It’s unrivalled in the field of Batman simulators, although some players have complained about the length of the experience, as well as the price. It’ll be interesting to see if the developers took advantage of the extra processing power and screen resolution of a PC VR setup.
The trailer shows off moments the developers thought would be most impressive – fiddling with a key, putting on your costume, operating strange machinery and throwing a batarang. That last one cannot end well. Make sure your controllers are firmly attached to your hands at all times. Bruce Wayne isn’t going to pay to get your windows replaced.
In all seriousness, it’s a good piece of Batman fiction. It allows you to feel like you’re wearing the mask yourself – in more ways than one, sadly, what with the weight and restrictiveness of the headsets. It lets you be the greatest detective, wander the bat cave/mansion and even play some tunes on the piano. The action might not live up to the regular Arkham games, but that’s par for the course.
Batman Arkham VR is going to launch on PC on April 25th, presumably with the same (or at least similar) price tag it has on Playstation Network ($20). Naturally, you’ll need a VR headset and a pretty decent rig to run it.
