Zelda BOTW Update 1.1.1 Fixes Frame Rate Issues
The first update for Zelda: Breath of the Wild is out, and its sole purpose seems to be fixing frame rate drops. Not that you’d know it from the vague, short patch notes. Zelda BOTW patch 1.1.1 completely removes frame rate issues in handheld mode, and almost completely in docked mode, according to the community.
Update 1.1.1, the first one for Breath of the Wild, has come out recently. Considering that there haven’t been almost any complaints about the game, you’d wonder what the update could contain. Since it’s the first patch to such a widely popular and beloved game, Nintendo made sure to publish extremely detailed patch notes.
Adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience.
You can take a minute to appreciate the simplicity and meta quality of that beautiful sentence. We can wait.
Joking aside, though, the BOTW community has been much more helpful than the official patch notes. According to a Reddit post by jvanglish, players have been reporting a dramatic decrease in frame rate drops after the update went live. The new Zelda did have some issues with frame rate in high grass, forests and/or when there are too man enemies on the screen.
According to the community, issues with frame rates in handheld mode have pretty much gone away, even when the screen is full of stuff happening. Unfortunately, there are still some problems in docked mode, admittedly, much less than before. This is pretty much unavoidable because of the increase in resolution while in the dock.
The patch is, of course, available both for the Switch version and the Wii-U version. The post talks about the Switch version, but you can expect to see a major improvement on the Wii-U as well.
