Destiny Sequel Announced on Track for Fall 2017 Release
According to Activison, we can expect a Destiny sequel in fall 2017. The announcement came in Activision’s financial results for the fourth quarter of 2016. CEO Eric Hirshberg later elaborated on the matter in an investor Q&A.
Guardians around the world, rejoice! After a long, long wait, you can finally look forward to a sequel to Destiny. Eric Hirshberg, Activision CEO confirmed that the game is “on track for release this fall” during a Q&A session with investors.
The first glimpse of the game we got was in Activision’s 2016 forth quarter financial results. One of the slides reads:
Full Destiny sequel in 2017 to broaden the franchise’s global reach, which along with follow-on content plans, sets the stage for growth.
Later on, Eric Hirshberg talked more about the game. He seems very confident, stating that they’re planning a huge reveal, and that he’d “let the game do most of the talking”. However, he did go into a little more detail. He said that the game would appeal to old devout fans, as well as lapsed fans and newcomers.
The cornerstone of that is a great cinematic story that’s been a real focus with a great cast of memorable, relatable characters, coupled with some very nice ways to make the game more accessible to a casual player.
There’s a grim reason behind these great news. Even though some people at Bungie might want more time to polish the game further, they’re in a serious time crunch. According to the Destiny 2 Kotaku report, they have to meet the deadline. Otherwise, Activision will get a massive amount of Bungie’s stock. Bungie is an independent studio partnered with Activision, but that dynamic can change if they don’t meet the Destiny sequel fall release date.
Whatever the circumstances may be, one thing is for sure. The Destiny sequel is on its way. There’s even talk of a possible PC release, but that’s just a rumor for now. And hopefully, the game will be better than its predecessor. Even though the game has a huge following, it disappointed a lot of people initially. We’ll see what the future holds.
