Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Opening Ceremony Scheduled

The Final Fantasy series is turning thirty next year. It’s a big number. Not many game franchises can boast of being around for that long, chucking out sequels at relatively regular intervals. It’s an accomplishment, any way you look at it. Square Enix is aware of this, and they’re organizing a ceremony to commemorate the occasion. They’re also inviting a number of their Japanse fans to attend.

The ceremony is going to take place at the Toho Cinema, in the Roppongi Hills complex in Tokyo. It’s scheduled for January 31st, 2017. The programme includes talks by important studio personnel, like Shinji Hashimoto, who serves as executive producer and brand manager for the Final Fantasy series. They’re also going to showcase some projects they’re planning to commemorate the anniversary. The exact schedule is still unknown, but will be published beforehand.

The most interesting part is the fact they’re going to invite 200 Square Enix Members from Japan to attend. If you’re a member, you can apply for a ticket. Winners are going to be selected using a lottery system. Unfortunately, winners can’t bring anyone along – one ticket is valid for one person, and you can’t even transfer it to another. Applications should be submitted before January 10th, 2017. The winners will be notified by January 13th.

We’re really anxious to see what these “commemoration projects” are. Fans across the internet are already making wild guessses about the games that are going to be talked about. Hopefully we’ll get to see a trailer for Final Fantasy VII remake, and some info about Final Fantasy XV DLC. Nintendo Switch ports are also probably going to be mentioned.

We expect to see more news before the ceremony. Hopefully the event itself will be livestreamed, so even those who couldn’t attend can enjoy it.
