Mass Effect Andromeda Multiplayer Strike Team Details
One of 2017’s most highly-anticipated games, Mass Effect: Andromeda, will feature multiplayer different than its predecessor. In Mass Effect 3, multiplayer missions improved your readiness rating a lot, so players were kind of pushed into that direction. Needless to say, players who wanted a solo experience were annoyed by this.
According to Bioware producer Mike Gamble, multiplayer in Mass Effect: Andromeda will work differently. In an interview, he gave more details on Strike Team missions and other aspects of multiplayer in the game.
Strike Team & Multiplayer in ME: Andromeda
In his interview with Kotaku, Mike Gamble explained that multiplayer missions in ME: Andromeda won’t be as pivotal as in ME 3. They’ll be more optional side missions, but they will give you rewards for completing them. Additionally, they will reveal more story tidbits. Nothing essential to the main plot, just details that flesh the Universe out more. In Gamble’s own words:
“There’s a system that we use called the Strike Team system, and fundamentally it allows you to go between single player and multiplayer within the game. And it’s packaged around a meta-story of what’s going on in Helios.”
Here’s how it will work. When you encounter a Strike Team mission, you can decide to leave your squad at the base. You won’t have to exit to the main menu, but there will be a loading screen. So, it’s not exactly instantaneous, but it’s still pretty seamless. This makes sense, considering the connection with the overall narrative.
You can either engage in the mission with your multiplayer roster, in single player, or invite up to three friends to join you. The more of you there are, the harder it will get, but you’ll also get better rewards. The missions will use the new Mass Effect’s multiplayer Horde mode.
The goals of these missions will be thematically connected to your current situation. It might be defending a settlement from a Kett attack, or recovering a Remnant artifact from a planet. The rewards you get are the standard multiplayer-specific ones: weapons, artifacts etc. However, you’ll also receive rewards you can use in the single-player campaign. Not only that, but joining another player’s Strike Team will net you extra XP and in-game currency for your own single player.
Mass Effect: Andromeda will it the shelves on March 21, 2017 in the United States and March 23 in Europe for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Get ready, pathfinders!
