For Honor Closed Beta Announced For January 2017

For Honor is an upcoming online action hack and slash game by Ubisoft. The game is set in a fantasy medieval world. Players can choose between three factions: The Legion, The Chosen, and The Warborn. If these names are too generic for you (and they are), what these factions actually represent are knights, samurais, and Vikings. I know they have my undivided attention.

For those of you who just can’t wait to get your mitts on For Honor, you can apply for the Closed Beta right now. With Ubisoft’s Beta track record, exercise some caution.

For Honor Closed Beta Announced For January 2017

Closed Beta for For Honor

If you’ve ever wondered what it’d be like to pit knights, Vikings and samurais against each other, you won’t have to wonder for much longer. For Honor is set in the “war-torn lands of Ashfeld, Valkenheim and Myre”, where three factions fight for supremacy.

Each of the factions have four classes, which are a bit too bog-standard, awesome names notwithstanding. You have the balanced, the quick-but-weak, the strong-but-slow, and the wild card. You get the idea. To be fair, teh game is still in Alpha, so things will probably change.

Parallel to the Beta launch, Ubisoft will launch War of the Factions, “a pre-launch limited time event”, which seems like it will just be the factions duking it out. During the event, the good people at Ubi will track all the multiplayer activity, cross-platform. Warriors participating in the event will get rewards, and so will the winning faction. Basically, the pre-launch limited time event is just a fancy name for “pretty basic Beta stuff”.

However, Ubisoft does seem to have an interesting trick up their sleeve. Here’s a quote from their press release:

Ubisoft also debuted its brand-new metagame, Faction War, the persistent cross-platform conflict between the Knights, Vikings and Samurai. Players begin by pledging their sword to the faction of their choice. Every multiplayer battle in For Honor impacts the world as players earn War Assets based on their personal performance in matches. These War Assets can be deployed and spent helping players conquer and defend territories. Every match makes a difference as all players contribute to the glory of their faction during each 10-week competitive multiplayer season. Once the season ends, all For Honor players will receive rewards based on the rank of their faction. At the end of each season the Faction War resets and resumes after an off-season period.

If this sounds like something up your alley, go on to the For Honor website and register for the Beta. The full game should come out on February 14th 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
