For the last two years, the game was shown to the audience at E3 annual fair for the video game industry. It was running on standard PlayStation 4 hardware, but now we have a chance to see how it looks like on PS4 Pro.

The PlayStation 4 Pro reveal event was held last month in New York City. It showed us all the extra power of the new hardware to see the vision of a lush and vibrant living world created for Horizon: Zero Dawn. Although, we must say that the game looks great regardless of the model it’s played on. It will look beautiful on PS4, but it will look even better on PS4 Pro, especially if you own an HDR-compatible 4K TV. Take a look at the footage of the PS4 Pro Zero Dawn gameplay.

Difference beetwen PS4 and PS4 Pro version

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic setting and the developer Guerrilla Games wanted to create a vision of nature reclaiming the Earth. The force of PlayStation 4 Pro allowed them to use a number of interesting possibilities to expand this vision even further.

The difference is clear even for the players who still possess the standard 1080p HDTVs. The PS4 Pro version offers far better image quality. One of the most obvious improvements is supersampling. This is a very high-quality anti-aliasing technique, which means that a game is rendered at a higher resolution, close to 4K, before shrinking it down to the final 1080p. Much more detail survives before the image is shrunk down to 1080p. The results are seen as much smoother edges and a more stable image.

Also, one of the improvements is enhancing the quality of shadow maps and increasing the quality of our anisotropic filtering. This technique is used to increase the quality of texture sampling, which gives much more detailed textures as a result.

Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 Pro will fully support users with 4K TVs. The output will be at a much higher resolution. A lot of details will be present, like the stitching on the protagonist’s outfit or individual leaves that sway in the wind.

The game will published for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro in 2017.
