Nintendo Switch Console Video Reveal
Nintendo has finally unveiled their new Switch console. Nintendo announced the development of a new console named NX in March 2015, and details have been scarce since.
Now we finally now a little more. The video showcases the hybrid home/portable nature of the console and some gameplay. Nintendo has scheduled the release of the Switch for March 2017.
After quite some time of silence, we get more information about the new Nintendo Switch, a handheld/home console hybrid. The system is just as weird and fascinating as is typical for Nintendo. It can be used as a home console or a handheld device. You can use the controllers in numerous ways. By the looks of it, the Switch will have third-party support. The video also teases what looks like a new Mario game. There really is a lot to be excited about.
The graphical power of the Switch comes from Nvidia’s custom Tegra processor. The console comes with custom software and an updated physics engine. The console’s GPU is reportedly based on top-of-the-line GeForce cards. If this is true, the Switch games will look about as good as on the Xbox One.
The games come on game cards, much like tiny cartridges. An interesting and bold move, seeing how other consoles are trying to shun physical copies. If the game cards bypass the infamous storage issues of the Wii-U, it will be worth the trade-off.
There are some unanswered questions about the Switch. We still don’t know what the battery life of the undocked system will be and whether it will have motion and touch controls. It’s also unknown whether it will be backwards compatible with Wii-U games and peripherals and if it will have any internal storage.
