Ashes of Ariandel PVP Trailer Released | Dark Souls 3
From Software and Bandai Namco have released the promised PVP trailer for Ashes of Ariandel, the upcoming Dark Souls 3 DLC. The video is called Choose Your Allegiance, and it’s definitely an odd one.

It’s a two minute trailer, but it wastes the first minute on showing the bosses, weapons and covenant leaders from the base game. Yes, yes, we’ve all played through it – the giant, the Pontiff, the thing with the cage that takes you to the cave with the guy. Good times, etc. It was probably done to remind people of all the fun they’ve had, but it’s still strange. It’s a trailer for a new thing, but half of it is spent on showing an old thing.
After all that ends, and the trailer starts for real, we finally get to see the new arena. It’s a flower-ridden place, like a calmer and more gentle version of the Kiln of the First Flame. The trailer shows of two groups of three players approaching each other, then starting to obliterate one another with polearms, axes, pyromancies and more.
It’s still unclear what kinds of game modes we can expect. The trailer makes it seem like there’s going to be duels, 2vs2, 3vs3 and a six player free-for-all deathmatch. There may be more, but there also may be less – the scenes that look like duels might just turn out to be smaller parts of larger skirmishes. What we think of as deathmatch might just be a 3vs3 brawl with poorly marked sides.
Ashes of Ariandel is the first DLC for Dark Souls 3. It’s going to be released on October 25th across all three platforms, which is when we’ll finally find out how this whole thing works. Stay tuned, and try not to go hollow.
