Best Starting Weapons in The Witcher 3

The Serpentine Steel Sword and Serpentine Silver Sword are great weapons in The Witcher 3. They are part of the Viper School set, and you can get them fairly early on, while still in White Orchard, the starting area. In this guide, we’re going to show you where to find the diagrams for the best starting weapons in The Witcher 3, where to craft them and which ingredients you’ll need. Serpentine Steel Sword

Start from the tavern in White Orchard, and go towards the ransacked village in the east. Take the road through the forest, and climb up the fort on the hill. There will be deserters up top, four of them. The leader is level 5, while the others are levels 1 and 2.

When you’ve dealt with them, go into the tower and loot the chest. You’ll find the diagram for the Serpentine Steel Sword and start the quest Scavenger Hunt: Viper School Gear. Following the quest tracker will lead you to the second diagram.

Serpentine Silver Sword

It’s below White Orchard Cemetery. There will be a level 7 wraith waiting for you outside the church. Having specter oil would help. When you beat it, it will run into the church. Use Aard on the door and go down the stairs. You’ll have to fight the wraith again. When you’re done, go to the right and loot the two corpses (use your Witcher senses to find them in the dark). One of them has the second diagram.

Crafting the swords

Now all that’s left is to craft the beauties. Go to the Nilfgaardian garrison up north – the quartermaster is also a blacksmith. He’ll craft your swords for about 120 crowns.

Here are the components you’ll need in order to make them:

Viper steel sword:

• Leather straps x1 – get them by dismantling armor or pieces of leather
• Iron ingot x1 – get them by dismantling armor or weapons, then craft the iron into ingots
• Emerald dust x1 – these drop from wraiths
• Venom extract x1

Viper silver sword:

• Leather straps x1 – get them by dismantling armor or pieces of leather
• Silver ingot x2 – dismantle silver weapons or silverware, then craft the silver into ingots
• Emerald dust x1 – these drop from wraiths
• Venom extract x1
