Quest Text

The baron turned out to be a tough negotiator who knew the full value of the information he possessed. He agreed to tell Geralt about Ciri on one condition: Geralt had to find his wife and daughter first. The women had mysteriously disappeared a short time before. Though the baron had moved heaven and earth to find them, all his efforts had proven fruitless.

Additional Info

This is one rather large main quest. It is influenced by a large number of other quests. You’ll need to complete some of them in order to progress with this one. You’ll also get to play through three sequences with Ciri during this quest. The order in which you complete (or not) the main missions related to this quest has some influence over the outcome.

Walkthrough

Following contains quest spoilers. You’ve been warned

Use your Witcher Senses to search the room.

There are a couple of things you can find out here. There is a rusty key that leads to the hidden basement room, Letter to Tamara and the most important one – the Talisman. Once you find the Talisman, give it to the Baron to start the next objective.

Find the pellar’s hut and talk to the pellar.

There is an option here to fight versus the people in front of the pellar’s hut or not. If you choose to fight them, you can acquire the achievement “Can’t Touch This” (Kill 5 foes in a fight without taking damage (except for Toxicity) and without using the Quen Sign.).

Lead the goat to the pellar.

This is where another main mission starts – “A Princes in Distress”. It will rewards you with 100 experience points and several new Character entries upon completion.

Read the bestiary to learn more about botchlings.

Talk to the baron.

Choice 1

I’ll try.

If you take this option you’ll go inside the nearby barn. It sets a new optional objective – “Save the stable hand and the horses trapped in the burning stable”.This is a dangerous area and you can easily get killed. Several objectives later, the person you’ve saved will give you 20 crowns as a reward.

This is the handsome fella you’ve saved.
Choice 2

Here to see the baron.

Defeat the baron in a fistfight.

Follow the baron.

Two big choices at the end of this objective send you on two separate objectives. The choice to turn the botchling into lubberkin is a faster one. It also feels emotionally justifiable toward the Baron. Objectives you have to complete within this choice are rather cool, considering the glow of the lubberkin during the night. They all consist of following the lubberkin and investigating two areas.
The second choice where you have to attack the monster is a rather cruel one. It consist of taking the botchling blood to the pellar. He needs this blood to complete the ritual. Unlike the first choice this one uncovers more lore, as the pellar talks about the previous owner of the land.
Choice 1

Attack the monster.

This objective requires a bit more time for completion. To complete the ritual at the end of the objective, you have to keep relighting the extinguished fire braziers. Gives 100 experience points upon completion.

Relight the fires in the braziers if they go out during the ritual.
Choice 2

Turn the botchling into a lubberkin.

This is the peaceful solution.

Search the area around the smokehouse using your Witcher Senses.

Look around the fisherman’s hut.

The previous two big choices end here. The fisherman gives you the main clue about Baron’s wife, Anna. This step gives 300 experience points.

Find Tamara, the baron’s daughter, in Oxenfurt.

Gives around 150 Experience Points. If you’ve completed the mission “Ladies of the Wood”, you can inform Tamara about her mother’s fate.

Investigate all remaining leads in Velen and find the Baron’s wife.

To complete this objective, you have to complete three main missions. Starting from “Witch Hunt” and “Wandering in the Dark” up to “Ladies of the Wood”. The last mission is where you find the Baron’s wife. Informing the Baron about his wife’s fate gives you 300 experience points.

Talk to the baron about his family.

Once you’ve found and talked to Tamara in Oxenfurt, completed the mission “Ladies of the Wood” and found out about Anna’s misfortune, the Baron will keep his word and tell you about Ciri. You’ll actually play as Ciri on three occasions (“Ciri’s Story: The Race”, “Ciri’s Story: Out of the Shadows”) during this mission.
